Parents With Disabilities Signed Into Law By Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb SB259

Indiana now has SB_0259, a bill protecting the right of persons with disabilities to parent. parents, including potential and active foster parents and those designated to serve as guardians, are not to be disqualified on account of disability.

The law also states that “a court … shall take into consideration the provision of reasonable accommodations to the individual as provided under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 … Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and other applicable state and federal law.”

We thank Indiana blind citizens, Morgan Daly and Amber O’Haver with the Indiana Statewide Independent Living Council, and State Senator David Niezgodski.
